The Operational Product Management Team is responsible for the execution of day-to-day Product Management activities by interfacing with key stakeholders in Purchasing, Finance, Marketing, Product Solutions, Supply Chain, Process Engineers / Continuous Improvement and Master Data Management. They are responsible for ensuring products are created efficiently and cost effectively and are guardians against unprofitable complexity.
The team is responsible for owning processes to define preferred raw materials, products and formulations.
The team ensures that products deliver value to the portfolio, that new products have strong business cases and are conform to raw material policies. The team are recognized experts who proactively share expertise with multiple functions to allow them all to grow in their process and product knowledge.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Management
- Owns the Product Life Cycle process including all sub-processes surrounding phase-in and phase-out of products and interacts with other functions to ensure that all appropriate cross-functional activities are executed at an operational level when decisions are made
- Facilitates the bi-annual product lifecycle meeting, preparing data and analyzing sales as well as working with supply chain to identify products which are systemically costing more than expected or creating more quality issues than expected and brings data to review and suggest product changes and product cancellations.
- Owns the logic of Product Coding and Product Hierarchies which allow products to be clustered and grouped for margin analysis and by supply chain for scheduling
- Works with Purchasing, Market Directors, Product Solutions, Operations and other Operational Product Managers to set both the preferred raw material and formulation palette as well as defining Go-To and Capable to Offer product rules.
- Prepares and shares data about product portfolio, including revenue and margin
- Team member for Raw material Replacement Projects being able to create reports showing where raw materials are used and the revenue and margin they drive
- Works with Quality and Product Solutions to generate Technical Data Sheets of Product Families
Product Set Up and What If Analysis
- Supports as the expert on product set-up in order to ensure that the overall most cost-effective product construction is designed. This includes a.i. working with finance and process engineers to assess benefit of wider width intermediates and taking trim versus lower batch size.
- Creates simplified cost models surrounding manufacturing costs of new products including CTOs to allow rapid simulation of potential costs of new products to expedite the quote process
- Works with Supply Chain and Manufacturing to create business rules about appropriate MOQs per asset
Margin and Pricing Analysis
- Works with Finance and Purchasing to create models that show impact of material costs inflation on finished goods costs and recommends pricing action
- Works with finance and manufacturing to create and maintain models showing margin $/hr of products and product families. Updates models and appropriate timeline.
- Creates reports showing margin analysis by customer and / or product lines and suggests pricing actions for outliers by working with finance and market directors
External Certification
- Represents Marketing Team in process development for external certificates such as FSC, ISCC etc and works cross functionally
JOB SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years of Product Management or R&D or Manufacturing expertise
- Excellent Excell and SAP skills
- Creative judgement and strong analytical skills
- Ability to work with global stakeholders.
- Ability to recognize problems and provide solutions.
