Introduction to Shield AI
Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed defense technology company whose mission is to protect service members and civilians with intelligent systems. In pursuit of this mission, Shield AI is building the world’s best AI pilot. The Hivemind Commander (HMC) product manager guides the development and product roadmap for the Commander and Control (C2) interfaces used to interface with autonomous systems. As HMC Product Manager, you will set priorities for software releases based on a deep understanding of both internal and external autonomy needs. These will be driven by direct interaction with end users, autonomy engineers and technical directors, as well as a deep understanding of the technical landscape and both government and commercial customers. You will be the owner and primary driver of Shield AI’s command and control software.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Develop and maintain a roadmap for Hivemind Commander that provides intuitive command and control of heterogeneous teams of autonomous systems across air, ground and maritime domains.
- Design and oversee solutions to some of the world’s most challenging human-machine interface problems, including multi-agent teaming, resilience to communications and GPS/GNSS jamming, control of robust, large scale teams and more while optimizing for operator cognitive load and ease of use.
- Interface directly with customers to understand their goals, needs, and priorities with respect to C2.
- Develop product requirements based on deep understanding of customer needs.
- Be an expert user of and evangelist for Hivemind Commander.
- Ensure the Hivemind Commander product has world-class capabilities, quality, extensibility, and documentation.
- Understand the business and technical landscape that affects your product.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 9 years and a Master’s degree; or 7 years with a PhD; or equivalent work experience.
- B.S. in Computer Science, Human Factors or a similar technical degree.
- 8+ years of relevant work experience and 3+ years of software engineering experience.
- You have both breadth and depth of experience contributing to C2 solutions
- Experience with User Experience Design (UXD) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and a strong design aesthetic
- You are an expert communicator and collaborator with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- You are an expert at balancing technical vs business risks and turning engineering output into business outcomes.
- You are a relentless learner who can comfortably develop the specialized knowledge necessary for drive the roadmap of a highly technical product.
- You have deep customer empathy and are highly creative at crafting technical solutions to solve customer problems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Human Factors or MBA
- Experience developing and shipping real-world human-machine interfaces for autonomous systems.
- Experience developing and shipping a developer-oriented product or platform
- Experience in highly technical customer facing roles
- Experience with relevant C2 interfaces such as STANAG 4585, Mavlink, CoT, etc.
- Experience with common C2 solutions such as TAK, QGoundControl, etc.
- Experience with defense focused C2 solutions such as Palantir Gaia, Common Control System, Vigilant Spirit, etc.
- Experience with unmanned air or maritime systems
- Experience with airworthiness, functional safety, or cybersecurity

Salary compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location. All offers are contingent on a cleared background and possible reference check.
