Job Description:
Reporting to Product Management Director, the Product Manager provides strategic insight, project leadership, and proposals on critical initiatives and investment decisions that connect market facing strategies with core operations.
The Product Manager is accountable for delivering year over year revenue and profit growth for their respective product categories (~$200MM – $500MM in annual revenue) by developing strategies that enable profitable growth, improve productivity, increase asset utilization, guide and prioritize utilization of functional resources, drive core product offerings and complexity reduction for the assigned Product category
A Product Category is a subset of a product group and typically are manufactured by multiple business units and serve most or all market segments. They broadly consist of a suite of products which have similar value streams, end use applications, assets and strategic technologies.
There are ~15 Product Categories within Amcor Flexibles North America (AFNA). There are several product categories within the four Product Group (Bags & Pouched, Rigid & Thermoformed, Printed & Laminated, and Extruded products).
The role serves to be the one source of truth regarding the company’s Product Category. This role collaborates closely with market segments, product development, and the respective manufacturing facilities on the development and execution of strategic initiatives to meet market needs and exceed financial performance targets.
The Scope of these roles impact $200 - $500 million in annual revenue. Product categories will always span multiple Business Units (BU) and multiple market segments.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
Financial Results:
- Accountable for driving year over year revenue and profit growth of the business Product Categories
- Accountable for maximizing business results by optimizing products and technologies, and delivering against annual operating plans and long-term strategic plans
Network Planning:
- Aggregate opportunity pipelines by the respective product category. Partner with supply chain to create a network view of the capacity. Provide long-term forecasting for product categories which inform market strategies, customer bid/deal strategies, and strategic capital investments
- Evaluate plant and asset performance against peers. Drive relevant value streams to the best in class operational position by building recapitalization strategies and deploying central resources to lead best practice teams.
- With the network expertise and financial analysis build a pipeline of opportunities to maximize AFNA’s best assets. Bring recommendations forward for AFNA leadership’s approval
- Provide business leadership to Manufacturing Process Improvement (MPI) and Process Development to ensure strategic alignment of prioritized projects by validating business cases for respective Product Groups
- Accountable for determining product placement in AFNA’s manufacturing network for respective product groups.
- Responsible for the creation of business plans associated with any substantive capital investment with respective product groups.
- Participate in AFNA’s plant profit teams to lead strategies and projects which improve the plants revenue or operational position.
Simplification:
- Lead core specification definition, standardization, and unification within the Product Group aimed at reducing operational complexity, increasing organizational speed and profit.
- Reduce listings of low volume and operationally complex or cost inefficient specifications as appropriate and institutionalize business rules to govern core specification management.
- Lead the development of a sustainable, commercial team approach to quoting and selling standard/core specifications across market segments.
Growth Enablement:
- Provide the business capacity transparency with a view to relevant product categories and network capacity to manufacture
- Guide the commercial teams on the profit impacts of customer negotiations. Support the targeting optimal opportunities when considering AFNA’s capability, capacity, and operational position within the relevant product group.
- In partnership with Marketing and R&D use a common approach to developing strategic, multi-generation product plans for relevant platforms within a Product Category. Determine common capability, capacity, or operational constraints across AFNA. Develop and lead strategies to mitigate which maximize AFNA’s growth and profit potential
- Develop and lead strategies to operationalize platform introductions which are common to multiple business segments (e.g. sustainable platforms). Prioritize segments where necessary.
- Lead competitive operation benchmarking of capability, quality, service, and cost. Build generational strategies to close gaps or extend lead for relevant product categories.

WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU
- BA (MBA preferred) in Business, Engineering, Operations, or related field
- 5-10 years of experience in some or all of Operations, Marketing, Engineering or R&D
- Leadership experience
- Experience in working in a Multi-national Corporation (MNC) environment, ideally packaging or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturing industry
- Experienced effective communicator in front of senior audience level
- Known for supporting strong customer partnerships
